Anyone know of a good campsite in Yorkshire that allows campfires and dogs? I've had a look through the ones on the UKcampsite site and there seem to be a few candidates, but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

Er, whereabouts? Yorkshire is a big place.

And when? There are some nice sites that I wouldn't recommend for a bank holiday. Will you be camping or dragging a shed?

I think one at Keld, North Yorkshire allows fires. Not sure about dogs.

Not too many camp sites welcome dogs and allow fires so you will find your choice very restricted.

I have a friend who regularly stops at Gordale Scar near Malham. She keeps going back because she loves it so much there.

They definitely allow dogs. According to the info on the Guardian page I linked to, no campfires though. Funny, I could sworn that my pal told me about a mishap with a campfire there. Perhaps it was a different site? You could always ring them to check.

there's one at Triangle near Soweby Bridge. It is a "certified location" which means (a) it has very basic facilities and (b) is supposed to be for Camping & Caravan Club members only - but they let anyone on! Last time we went they allowed fires and pets, although it had been very dry and the lady running the site requested that fires were either in a brazier (there are a few dotted about that you can borrow) or set on a stone so that the grass wasn't burned.

I think that sites which allow fires are few & far between from searches I have done. My son is a bit of a pyromaniac and that was always his favourite bit of camping!

I believe that the site at Triangle has a few reviews on the UKCampsite forum.

Thanks all - I'll check 'em out. Um, as to where exactly, I don't think it really matters much. 'er indores wants to go to the outdoor sculpture park, which is sort of midway between Leeds & Sheffield, but we have a car, so that's not really a deciding issue. It's more about trying to find one that allows fires (not many do) and dogs (ditto) - finding the two toghether is a real challenge. Any more suggestions very welcome.

That is well worth at least an afternoon of anyone's time. I'm not normally a visual art person, but the Henry Moores are wonderful - and it's free to get in (although not to park).

This web site has some web sites in Yorkshire that allow fires and dogs. You'll have a fair drive, 80-90 miles, to get to them though as they appear to be all in the Richmond, N. Yorks area.

Here's another site I've found useful in the past:

We went to one at Dalby Forest, took one of the dogs and there was evidence of campfires. Don't set up near the trees unless you have shares in Deet or similar, citronella stuff unless you want to be eaten alive. It was very clean & tidy when we went & good facilities.
Long drive to South Yorks.
