My god daughter has decided to do GCSE Engineering - hurray, I say - and I was looking for a book on one of my heroes.

Too much choice! Has anyone read a biography they can recommend? Not a 500 page tome full of engineering drawings, but there again not something flung together to accompany a TV series.

Ideally it should also explain whether the rising sun does indeed shine through the Box Hill on IKB's birthday.

I've not read it myself, but how about this, by a fairly well known railway and steam author?

What's Left of Brunel by Jonathan Falconer. Lots of pictures, drawings and quite relevant information on everything he built. Very interesting book.
