I love coffee.

We go through two 200g bags of ground coffee per week using the cafitiere at work.

All your usual supermarket brands, normally Sainsburys, as well as your finer Costa, Douwe Egberts ha ha

Thing is, can get 1 kg of beans on ebay for £12.99 ish. There's differebt ones and to be honest 1 kg worth of coffee is a lot to get through if it's rubbish.

So any recommendations for some real good coffee beans - and a link if possible?

I used to have single bean variety. Mocha is nice, and so are giant elephant ears.

You can try this company. Pact Coffee. Your first 250g bag of coffee will cost £1 thereafter it's £6.95 inc postage. It's not cheap but I use it as a treat and use cheaper supermarket coffee as the base loading for my caffeine fixes. It's a curated coffee service - the company seeks out small producers and pays them above Fair Trade prices.

You can specify the coarseness/fineness of the grind and even buy the beans I think.

Sadly I don't get a pie for every clickthrough/order though I will get a hand grinder for coffee beans if five folk place orders. I'm not that anal about prepping my own ground coffee so it's a redundant incentive. I'm recommending the coffee because I like it.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
And here's another link for Pact. I would quite like another hand grinder, because I find it relaxing to sit in the office and grind away.

Thanks to @vernon for putting me onto them in the first place.

The other place I buy coffee from is Union Coffee Roasters (http://www.unionroasted.com). I find Pact's coffees excellent for an espresso, but a little light for a cafetiere first thing in the morning - for that our staple is Union's Revelation blend.

I've experimented with cafetiere, stove top, aeropress and V60 filter methods with Pact coffee. The cafetiere produces the most anaemic coffee, the V60 filter produces acceptable coffee but demands attention with a need for a slow trickle of water over the grounds in the filter leaving the aeropress and stove top pot fighting for top place.

The aeropress is more consistent but just occasionally, the stove top pot delivers an outstanding cup.

And when i said that that the coffee grinder was a redundant incentive. I didn't say that I didn't want one. I could trade it for pies.

Pact is a bit expensive.

Try Coffee Bean Shop, James Gourment Coffee or The Bean Shop.

Old Brown Java and the similar Monsooned Malibar are my favourites.

I too found Jamaican Blue Mountain overrated. It was too bland and wishy-washy for my tastes. I prefer Ethiopian and Yemen varieties - Ethiopian Sidamo and Ethiopian Harar Longberry are both favourites of mine, as is the very difficult (near impossible) to obtain Yemen Matari.

Sainsberry's of all places does a very nice Ethiopian Sidamo in its Taste the Difference range. Well worth a try.
