Recommend me a front low rider rack to go on a rigid mtn bike.

But before you start, I should say I already have one that doesn't fit. It's one of these and although it's been on the bike I couldn't get it level and I want it level otherwise my panniers are prone to jumping off or sliding.

The problem with it is the U bolts, for I only have a mudguard eyelet and no other fixings, don't fit around the forks, the U-bolts are simply too narrow because of the angle of the forks and their width. So I need a recommendation of a rack which someone knows will fit.

For info, it's a 1997 Marin Bear Valley rigid mtn bike. Also I'm not looking to spend a fortune, so high end Tubus stuff is out, budget 20 to 30 ish.

Do you have a good local hardware shop - a proper one, not B&Q? I bet they would be able to find some fixings to make the one you have work.

That is a possibility but I'm not sure this rack is worth the faff. I think I might take the opportunity to fit a better one if possible.

I think this one may do it, with the added advantage that halfords sell it so I can take the tape measure along.

Pricing up U-bolts of the correct dimension on ebay led me to half the cost of the new rack. I'll have one more look in my local hardware shop.
