I dont think a comparison can be made between Genever and Gin, for example it would be vile with tonic. If you're going to drink it though, go for the older stuff (usually in stone bottles), chill it right down and drink it neat.

For normal gin, you'd have to go a long way to beat Plymouth IMO.

I'd always thought old genever was drunk at room temp?

Ooh, now Penderyn sounds interesting....as someone who enjoys a Penderyn whisky..I could probably even be tempted with a small sample myself....just for research purposes

I had some Tanquery in at the same time - the Penderyn was smoother, with less of an alcohol edge on the nose. Probably a touch less dry too.

Funnily enough, I'm not much of a fan of their whisky.

Hendrick's with cucumber or Tanqueray as a more traditional G&T. Bombay Saphire is overpriced, overhyped and doesn't have the best combination of botanicals IMHO. There's also a whole range, far more extensive than British gin, of the Dutch equivalents of gin, genever, which can be excellent.

Noes!

Oh FM. Something else on which we disagree profoundly.

Another Hendricks vote here. Also partial to using cucumber.
