Not the old-fashioned sort that clipped in the frame but a skinny pump about a foot long that pumps up to a high pressure. Preferably also that pumps only on the compression stroke, not the withdrawal.

Mine should be good in theory being very thin for high pressures but the valving system doesn't work very well and it doesn't pump properly on the withdrawal stroke. Had a blowout in the front wheel today at 38 mph going down a hill; front tyre hit a stone square on and went down. Pumped up and rode home on soft tyre, which did not inspire confidence. As I reached home my rear tyre also went flat!

As Ian said, Lezyne Road Drive. It's got a flexible hose so you reduce the risk of breaking the valve when you are in a hurry. Also, the nifty bracket fits next to your bottle cage.

The Road Drive looks good, especially as it comes in black. Does it pump only in one direction?

I have the Lezyne Pressure Drive. It's a little shorter than the Road Drive (ideal for putting in your back pocket) Comes with the flexible hose and pumps on the downstroke

Looks good thanks! I have ordered a Road Drive.

I wonder if that Pressure Drive is fatter than a Road Drive? It looks like a big volume-low pressure pump for mountain bikes.

Road Drive arrived yesterday.... wow! The quality is superb! Haven't actually tried it yet but will this evening. Happily it fits straight into my existing skinny pump bracket, which actually holds it without the strap.

Thanks for the recommendation.
