Along with most cycling gear and apparel. The brands all fit different. So the best thing you should do is try on first. It's alright someone saying this brand is great or that brand is great, you spend a lot of dosh and find the fit is not to your liking.
Your quite right I normally take a 42 shoe but my Shimano M088 are a 43.

A pal of mine swears by Aldi's very very cheap shoes. He bought two pairs a few years ago, but hasn't come close to starting on the second pair yet as the first are still going strong, including a LEJOG.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will check out a few shops in Glasgow to see if anyone has any of the recommended ones.

Ended up getting a set of Bontrager Race Mountain shoes. Got them at £40 with a combination of in-store sale and double discount with my Tiso card. Pretty chuffed..Yet to try them out on the bike properly of course, but still.
