Thanks for all the advice. Think I've got some gloves sorted.

Was looking at my grip on the bars/hoods last night. Ok on the bars. Seems to be an issue when on the hoods. Is there any padding you can get for around the base of the hoods (and under the rubber cowl) that doesn't foul up the natural function of the lever?

There are some gel pads made for the purpose, at least Fizik makes them IIRC. I have put some leftover pieces of bar tape under the tape, that might help somewhat.

That said, I got rid of my hand pains after I started to pay attention to my grip so that my weight wasn't on the middle of my palm heel, if that makes sense. Of course, if your grip is already ok, that's not going to help.

The specialized gloves I've had have all busted seams within a year. Got some Castellis recently and they seem good so far, very cooling fabric on the back of them so I'm not getting too sweaty - that's the cause of the rubbing pain on the palms I find. Ritchey cork bar tape is just the best, got my stiffest alloy bars wrapped in them with no need for gel pads underneath - unlike the Microtex I've used in the past. If you need to pad your bar tape it's failed in my opinion.
