Just been out for a short spin, on my way home. Get to the traffic lights, basically just outside my road.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...d=9cB0qnNJ7iGCmqzezOusrA&cbp=12,50.46,,0,5.77

It's red for me, with traffic coming from the left and right. This POB, then comes from the other side, onto the junction, making the cars from the left and the right have to stop for him.

Just pure selfishness. I could understand jumping some red lights in Norwich, but there really isn't any need here. They don't take more than a few seconds to change.

Anyway. The POB turns into the road I was going, having gotten no where.

I wouldn't normally bother saying anything, but this was just so stupid and unnecessary that I decided I would. Without any anger in my voice, or aggression, etc (best description would be of disappointment), I simply said "I'd wait at the red light next time". He grumbles something like "or what?". I go to tell him how he forced the people to have to stop for him and how he ruined cyclists reputations, blah blahh....I got as far as "well" and couldn't be bothered and carried on cycling.

He obviously didn't like being given this advice as I then just hear him yelling at me, can't remember what exactly...but he obviously wanted me to stop so he could thump me/get aggressive.

Like I said, I hadn't been aggressive at all so couldn't be bothered stopping for an argument. Down side was I had to cycle right past my road as I live near the bottom of it and didn't want him to see where I lived

I am willing to bet he wouldn't of been so tough, if I had actually turned around and taken my pump out ...unless my chain came off and had to change two punctured tyres there would of been no way this guy could have caught up with me.

I did have my camera, but it ran out of battery as it wasn't charged so you'll just have to do with a textual version of the events . I guess I'm not surprised that he didn't like being told off, but some people shouldn't be allowed on the roads...Bloody cyclists 'ey?:biggrin:

Take it easy Thomas - sometimes the subtley of language even though well meaning can just get people on the wrong way.

Yes, criticism of one's riding/driving ability is seldom well received whether justified or not. Just roll your eyes and ride on. He will learn ... or die without your help.

All sorts of uncouth types round those parts. I find that pedalling keeps mentals well out of my way, until they find out how to change gears that will continue to work xx(

I saw a guy do a very similar jump as described, he was wearing a king of the mountains jersey, which i thought was fun as i just overtook him on a hill!

I *know* that you didn't intend to start a row with him .....but...it doesn't take much to enrage an already embarrassed yob into a violent re-action that ends with him taking his embarrassment out on you.

Unless you are totally confident that you can finish a row (and can project that confidence), then I would do all I could to avoid one if I were you.

I turn a blind eye to most "goings on" in London unless I ever feel that I, or those I care for, are at threat. Then I tend to take the offensive a bit too quickly (which also has its downsides).

Kinda no win really.

I quote the immortal Kenny Rogers

"It won’t mean you’re weak if you turn the other cheek".

And no I don’t listen to Kenny Rogers (not on purpose at least), it's just the only line I can recall that fits this reply…any help?

Well. There wouldn't of been a hope in hell that he could have caught me up on his bike. Like you said, didn't intend to start a row, it was just a flippant comment. I didn't take the bait when he started arguing, stopped at "well".

Hopefully he'll wait at that junction next time.
