Im usually on the path around 9:45-10:30 but today I actually had to be in on time so I left with the peak hour traffic and I just need to say.....OH MY GOD!!

I must have overtaken 60+ cyclists! In recent weeks there have been people on the path with boards writing something down (does anyone know what this is?), i'm guessing the 2 are related...surely they wouldnt close the path off to cyclists?

Having watched the vid someone posted recently with the nutter pretending to have something in his hand, I wouldn't cycle along there - would be concerned someone could just push you straight into the canal - looks really narrow..! Also looks pretty slow if you have to slow down for peds/ oncoming cyclists etc.

Has anyone ever taken a dip?

yeah i rescued a cyclist before...I didnt see it happen but he said it just misjudged a corner! we spend the next 30mins with a fisherman trying to rescue the bike!

Apart from the nutter last week I think its still alot safer than the road, must be the reason everyone likes it?

It is a lovely journy for sure, but a heck of a lot slower then the roads i believe. I think thats why so many use it, just for the relaxing pace of it and the scenery. Had one near dip but managed to save myself. There is a really narrow bit where under a bridge, the path has paving stones which slant very steeply towards teh water, scary! i would say what time im there, but everyone will be waving at the camera lol or trying to stab me again! ;o) Warm evenings are certainly the worst, everyone is out, dogs shitting in the middle the path, drunks, i saw someone pushing a buggie really fast with a kid in, he was jogging with it. I mean, how effing dangerous especialy as I was coming over one of hte little bridges. grrr.

back to the question, i guess they are monitoring how many people use it. There was some people trying to get donnations for reparing it, forget what they are called, but i put a clip of them up.

I have seen Sustran people with a little stand around Bow one weekend. Didn't bother to stop to find out what they were up to.

just trying to get us to give money. Sounds good, but .gov should give money then us, rather like a voluntay tax for cyclists. They aslo want to build a cycle bridge across the thames.

Maybe it was the water authority counting cyclists vs the number of permit to rides that they've issued ... something I doubt most cyclists apply for.;)

Let's face it, canal towpaths, for the most part, really suck tailpipe if you want to get somewhere fast. It's better and safer to stick to the roads, IMO.
