Forget trousers, Arch, go and buy yourself a proper corset from Vollers or Axfords and find a strong man to lace you tightly into it. It's the sexiest garment known to man or woman, take it from me and Mrs RR!

Blimey. Has Harmless Uncle Patrick seen this thread yet? He'll be beside himself...

Now, can I make do with one man to lace me in and unlace me, or do I have to have two?

I picked up a copy of The Lady magazine last week and they had a "100 years ago in The Lady" page, and there was a corset ad, with the caption "Art steps in where nature fails".... I'm not sure what's so sexy about slowly asphixiating while your internal organs get mashed.

BTW, whalebone wasn't really whalebone, but whale teeth, if you count baleen as teeth, it's more like hair/nail material really.

One of my abiding regrets is that I was born too late (by about two hundred years) to be a Regency buck. I'd have loved to spend all my time knocking the tops off bottles of port, eating chops, attending bareknuckle boxing matches and occasionally blowing the head off someone who'd slighted me. And now it turns out I'm even too late for the best trousers ever. Ah well.

I think I get it - Arch likes a chap who can flaunt his ballroom !

Imagine, if you had a ballroom, you could ride round it in wet weather to get a few miles in....

RT - I know what you mean, but I suppose you also miss out on gout, the pox and cholera.

I've never worn an Empire Line frock, I wonder if they would suit me. Probably not, I tend to look like a sack of potatoes whatever I wear...

a) you should be banned for needless self-deprecation and
 do you realise how good potatoes are when turned into chips?
Balls to trousers - we need potatoes. Sacks of them!
So.
(And the bloke in your photo couldn't cycle uphill anyhow - so he's a crap role model for genuine CCers)

mmmm, that little ponytail tied up with a black velvet bow....

Aperitif, thank you for the admonition, but it is true I don't really do clothes justice. My sister is one of those people who looks good in anything, I guess she got it all in that respect. But then, I don't care much either!

In the same programme, (Emma) the men also seem to walk like men. I was going to mention this a few weeks ago, when the series first started, but thought it might create the wrong impression.

Now that Arch has started this thread, can I add that the men stride along purposefully and with gusto. Rather than some men who today seem to dawdle along in a very casual manner.

In order to keep Arch and myself happy, which two men are going to learn how to ride a horse? Note I said "men" not "boys".
