It wouldn’t necessarily be better. Be happy in what you do / did. Too many deeply miserable buggers trying to climb the “career” ladder. Their hourly rate actually goes down as they are expected to work so many more hours with added pressure.

That's actually THE main reason I didn't accept. I didn't want to the the one senior management were ringing on a Sunday afternoon because X wasn't working. That and the suspicion you'd end up trying to manage it..and be expected to do a days maintenance work as well...which is exactly what happened to my good friend and colleague that did accept it...but it was a good career move for him, a younger guy. Me, much as I could handle systems and procedures...I don't do people.

Regrets, I have a few!:
  • Getting married when I had just turned 18.
  • Having kids. I am not the paternal type of person.
  • Getting engaged to a scouser 😂
  • Buying a 2017 Rolex Submariner. The older ones are so much nicer.
  • Failing to take promotion opportunities earlier in my career.
  • Selling my Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore “Safari” watch.
  • Selling my Ford Mustang.
Hang on, that’s a bit more than a few!

Not our army but before I aged out of the conditions I seriously looked at the French Foreign Legion, in the end I decided not as I wanted to stay close to my parents.

Was never a desire to disappear, I just kind of liked the idea of having opportunities that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

Had you been watching too many Jean Claude van Damme films?

Regrets, yes, I've had a few, mostly bourne out of me listening to other people too much and then me completely over - thinking things.

I actually sacrificed my own happiness when I was young, it did nothing but damage me, the consequences I still can see now... And for what?
In the end, nothing. 🤦‍♂️😭😭😭

As for not noticing the other sex... OH YES!!

I can notice guys a mile off and have had some very nice times, but woman? I barely notice if someone is trying to flirt with me and even then, I just think they are being nice!
Actually, I've snogged many a woman, but that is usually about as far as it ever goes and is quite superficial anyway (the barmaids in my old local would go round and kiss us all too, which was nice! 🤣).

As a general principle I'd rather regret something I have done rather than something I haven't.

eg I was in Belize back in the days Belize/UK and Guatemala were in effect at war and I really wanted to visit Guatemala but British Embassy said "don't go as isn't safe and no diplomatic relations". But I'd rather regret doing something than regret not having tried ... so I went, probably daft and despite a few close calls glad I went and would forever have regretted not going. And looking back at the close calls they too are great memories.

Ended up in quite a few "not sensible" situations and probably lucky they were not disasters but memorable experiences.

Numerous regrets marrying the ex, should have pushed her off a bridge. Should have pushed my evil sister off at the same time. Luckily the otherside of the world is far enough away. Going into business to young. Biggest regret losing both parents before I was 21 and not knowing what my grandad did in the war until it was to late to ask. TBH I suspect he wouldn't have said alot.

Not getting into cycling for fitness until I was 43 and only then discovering proper South Downs hills were less than an hour away, despite living in Southampton since l was almost 19 and always having a bike of some description.

https://intervals.icu/ reckoned I had a VO2 of 55.9 in '22 aged 48, who knows how much better I might have been in the 90s, considering I was pretty fit back then mainly through Taekwondo training.
