When I first moved hereabouts I used to give a friendly nod or hello to fellow commuters heading towards Britain's most over rated town of cambridge, but it's clearly not the done thing around here as was blanked comepletely by the locals. There is a bunch of older blokes on some kind of group ride I see every Wednesday morning heading north who always say hello, so I assume they are not from miserable Cambridge and probably heading home to friendlier/ happier parts like dear old Norfolk. And I wish I was heading back there with them.

One youngish lad I sometimes see well hear actually as his bike sounds like a bag of pots and pans. He rides with no lights or helmet in the dark, always peddling furiously like he is late for something.

Bumped into one of my semi regular guys when I head into Manchester. Guy on a trek road bike. Took turns at the front doing a steady 25 - 26 mph, although with there being a tail wind I was on my limit spinning away at 120-125 rpm. Lost him as we filtered at lights near town, when I stopped and he jumped them.. oops.

Don't tend to see many cyclists around this neck of the woods, at least not until you get close to work. Mostly it's dog walkers down the trails, always see a guy with 2 dogs in the same place every morning, stood at the side of the footpath to keep his dogs out the way. Always say morning to him. Funniest thing is where I see him is literally in the middle of nowhere, he would have a minimum of a 3 mile walk to get to that point!

Also see the same drivers, usually in the same places every morning.

I cycle to and from Cambridge every day and I have around 5 regulars, and all say hello etc, and a 2 have said happy xmas and new year etc, and one guy I pass almost every day along a cycle path we now stop and have a little chat.I see one lady passing me opposite my route into Cambridge, and one guy who I have helped with punctures twice !

I, however, have bright lights and my lovely Altura Nightvision jacket, in Raspberry (AKA bright bright pink). You can't miss me.

Me too usually - though I had my grey one on today but a man going the other way gave a lovely cheery hello today making me smile back. I'm not the only pink jacket though ... I often see at least 2 others.

I only see one "regular" on my commute - Rochdale is not exactly a hotbed of cycling activity!

Chap on a road bike who I usually see on Shawclough Road, with one light on his bike and usually one on his gigantic backpack. Gave him a "Good Morning" for the first time today as I overtook

To be fair though, my workplace is not too far up the hill and I can well imagine he is pacing himself for the long drag to the top!

Hi

I see various people on my ride. Most dont say anything but usually give a smile. Here are some of them:

Lady on the folder - with her bag in the front basket. Never says hullo - but allways heading towards the city whatever the weather. She a true cycle commuting hero.
The bloke on the white road bike - no helmet, wrap round sunglasses, lyrca armour always gives a nod. I think hes really into to his cycling.
The couple who I always cycle together clad head to toe in gore-tex armour plate, I usually meet them in the tunnel, im reaching terminal velocity at this point.
The lady with the rolhof bike, always says hullo.
The man on the roadie, another superior cyclist (ie faster than me!)

Hullo to you all

I'm no good at recognising people, but I do remember bikes. Other than people I know from fora, there is the Japanese chap on the shiny clean ?Shorter. There's the chap with 'Quickerbybike' on his shorts. There is an occasional part-chromed Bob Jackson with swept back bars, Brooks bar tape stopped with cork ends, Brooks saddle and one reverse brake lever. There's the chap on the Genesis Flyer who is about the same speed as me. The long-haired woman (formerly on a Raleigh; more recently on a Marin) with a helmet dangling from her bars who disregards most red lights, so I keep passing. And (though I haven't seen her in a while) the woman on a hybrid with a child seat marked 'Princess on Board' with a laminated A4 sign. She wears ordinary shoes, listens to a radio strapped to her handlebars, and is surprisingly fast.

I'm sure there are others...

With different routes in morning and evening, I have the following:

Inbound
  • The you're-running-late fastish guy working his way from Tooting to Chiswick. We share the last 8 miles or so. He has a shortcut from Wandsworth Bridge I've still not mastered. If I see him, I'm going to be late.
  • The you're-seriously-late fast guy working his way from Streatham to Wandsworth. If I see him, I'm already late.
Outbound

  • Puncture guy: Darren, occasional victim of punctures, occasional rescuer of other cyclists. We like Darren.
  • Ninja: Standard greetings "Your light is out!" with return of "Battery died". Despite his best wishes, that battery hasn't recharged itself at all. Lazy battery.

I see two regulars.

The guy in full commuter gear (night vision jacket + lycra leggings) with full panniers who just powers his way up hills at a steady rate, although he seems to disappeared this year. I think he cycled through most of the snow last year.

Secondly a guy on a Genesis Croix de Fer (mmmm, my dream bike). Always going super fast but I have yet to say hi to him as I'm normally oggling his bike. By the time I try remember he's normally waaay past me.
