I think evening classes aren't offered as much nowadays, because more people work shift patterns.
...
Probably because funding to further education was massively cut so the local colleges couldn't afford to pay the tutors.
Any Tom, Dick or Harriet could run an evening class so long as they could come up with a viable curriculum for an 8 or 11 week course... then get a minimum of around ten or twelve people to sign up for it to get the 'funding' (AKA wages). Loads of people I knew ran evening classes in whatever their hobby was, be it needlework, photoshop, watching films, pottery, etc. Then the funding disappeared and the list of local evening classes went from being a booklet to a sheet of A5.

When I was an apprentice, my tech day was from 9 am to 9pm
it was a bloody long day.

Same for me when I was doing my City and Guilds in Mechanical engineering. I also did 2 years at night school when doing my diploma in counselling. Which when I started was at a college of higher education, which became a polytechnic and by the time I finished it was a university.
However it’s no longer there and it’s current campus is 30 miles away from where I studied.

A quick joke about evening classes, might be considered a bit NSFW.

A gynecologist is at a loose end when he sees a leaflet for evening classes, so he decides to have a go at motorcycle maintenance.

On the first night he turns up to find two other people there, they all stick it out until the final exam at the end of term, when they have to strip and rebuild an engine.

The first bloke steps up and when he's finished the examiner says, 'that's perfect, 100%.'

Then the second one has a go and gets the same result.

Next it's the gynecologist's turn, this time when he's finished the examiner says, 'another perfect one, 110%.'

The other two blokes look at each other in surprise before one of them says, 'hang on a minute, you said we were perfect, so why don't we get the same score?'

And the examiner replies, 'yeah but he did it all through the exhaust pipe.'

I don't understand. Could you explain it to us?

Apart from a class in vehicle maintenance when I first became a car owner, all my evening classes have been in languages. I got up to A/S level in French and German (A grades no less) and to GCSE level in Italian (also an A). The problem was that any attractive birds did not last longer than the first two or three lessons, before I had a chance to work my charm on them.

I started my first Italian language course at evening classes just over 20 years ago, getting my higher and then my advanced higher the following year. A year later they cut college funding and dropped several languages. ☹️

I remember "night school" doing Institute of Chemists, fifty years ago
My boss, "you're enrolled for night school. Get your ARIC "
Me: "I just got my degree in Applied Science, that included 3 years of chemistry"
My boss, " wrong sort of chemistry"

Surely he would have been a proctologist if he used the exhaust pipe?

Reminds me of the one about car drivers born by cesarian section who climb out through the sunroof.
