The ideas, I've read, mooted around this are basically that you'll spend more time, money and energy constantly changing your chain rather than letting them all wear down together. I make no claims re the veracity of this and am sure that factors like, cost of kit, riding style, riding conditions and personal preference come into it.

You also seemed to cherry pick just a bit of the arguement around option 2.

if you buy 3 chains for yo bent and you only need 2 and a half do you save the half bits and eventually you won't have to buy one?

I gave the mickle method a go today. I must confess it worked pretty well. I had to give up after covering a shirt entirely in black gunk but it is certainly better than it was.

I need to give the bike a proper clean next weekend. I will give the chain another once over at that point but even now I must say I am impressed!
