My LBS has told me that the largest chainring on my bike (Thorn Club Tour mid 90's vintage) will need to be changed soon. It's part of a triple chain set, 24/34/44, it's got Shimmano SG-X written on the outside. I've tried looking at the St John's Street Cycles website to find something the same, but to be honest it's all Greek to me, lots of numbers which mean nothing to me. Could someone point me in the right direction to find something suitable to replace it with please, below is an old close up photo of it

What's the BCD of the outer two rings, that's your starter point. It's likely printed on the rings somewhere. Might be something like 94, unlikely 110 though. My five arm triple Deore LX is 94 bcd.

Do you have a model number stamped on the 'back' of the cranks ? It's a pretty old crankset being 'square' - I'd put at late 80's early 90's (going off my similar aged road cranks).

this is a distance between two nearest bolts to BCD converter:

5 hole chainrings:
Distance (x) > BCD
34.3mm > 58mm
43.5mm > 74mm
55.4mm > 94mm
64.7mm > 110mm
71.5mm > 122mm
76.4mm > 130mm
79.5mm > 135mm
84.6mm > 144mm

4 hole chainrings:
Distance (x) > BCD
41.0mm > 58mm
45.3mm > 64mm
48.1mm > 68mm
73.6mm > 104mm
79.2mm > 112mm

This would do the job, from Tweeks website.

TA Zephyr 110 BCD Chainrings
Outer 110 44T Black

Might be prudent to change the middle ring as well, as probably the middle is the one you use the most?

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
I'm sure the clever people above have already given the correct answer. But not being clever what I would do is to email Spa Cycles. They will know.

Thank you all, I cannot see anything stamped on the chainring, but measuring with an old vernier calliper gives me @ 65mm between the adjacent bolt centres, so this seems to equate to 110mm for BCD. Also realised it's 26/36/46 teeth!

Thanks again
