Replacement fork 90s GT avalanche

I have a 90s GT avalanche 1.0 that I am renovating for my son to use on the road. The xtc-pro forks on it are terrible. It’s like he’s riding a clown bike, any time he stands up to get some power down the front end just pogos. What’s the cheapest way to fix this? Replace with another set of 90s forks? Replace with rigid fork? Can I replace with a rigid fork from a cheap donor bike? Any recommendations gratefully received

Yes, you can replace the fork with a rigid one, in fact a better choice if he'll being using it mainly on the road. New/used/donor bike.
I have just hoiked my GT avalanche 1.0 out of the shed to have a look (bonus - gave it a quick clean!).
The fork offset on a rigid will be similar so handling should be no significant difference.
Fork will need to be one for disc brake (obv) - if same as mine it's an ISO fit (so match or poss new brake) and 100m OLD.
Enough steerer tube length and same OD.
