So with the revelation that the bike shop didn't note down the frame number when they built my now-stolen bike (to be fair, neither did I) goes most hope of me ever finding it again. Of course, it may still come back but in the meantime I think I should start looking for another bike.
Mine was the Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc hybrid. It was a lovely bike but I'm wondering if I got the wrong thing. I'm mostly using the bike for cycling to work (2 miles each trip, not exactly massive) and then doing slightly longer fitness runs, either round the streets of Southampton or on Southampton Common (some paved, some gravel) and other parks around the area. I do hope to get to the New Forest at some point since it's not exactly far - though of course I had to pick the one car (Honda Civic 08 with panoramic roof) that hates roof racks! I'm quite weighty (over 100kgs) which was my main worry about getting a road bike - I don't want lots of punctures where the bike can't take my weight.
I guess the question then is: am I barking up the wrong tree with a hybrid when I should be getting a road or a CX bike? If so, what should I go for? And if not, is the Crosstrail the best I'm going to get for around £500-£550?
