Reporting mobile use while driving

Avon & Somerset are now refusing to process footage of drivers interacting with handheld mobile phones if the driver is female and if she looks up from her phone and notices the person filming. This policy does not apparently apply to male drivers.

In the past, footage showing interaction between the reporter and the motorist would be rejected, but this is a step further.

I could just about understand that if it was the other way around - if it were a female taking the video and a male who noticed her. She might be at risk of reprisals if he gets done and recognises her.

But when it is the female being reported it makes no sense at all.

If London police took the same attitude, then most of Cycling Mikey's reports would be disallowed.

I have emailed A&S challenging this. There are no published standards nor, according to a FOI are there any such written criteria either.

But their website is reasonably clear about what is required - within 14 days of the event, etc etc.

Thanks, I missed that. I'm interested because I live in the Somerset and Avon area and make reports occasionally.

Good luck with your complaint @Arjimlad sounds like officers are making up policy as they go
