I see a lot of people driving talking mobiles, seems like the worse the driver the more likely they are to do it. Is there any way to do something about it?

You could let the police practice their fob off skills...sorry! I'd imagine you could take it to the police, but I don't think they'd be able to use it for much.

It's not being fobbed off. A police officer has to see the person commit the offence, or the offence is discovered as part of another offence (collision)

Problem is its a normal every day occurrence to see someone on a mobile phone. Other motorists must see it too and think its normal. I think the law needs to be changed to make it easier for the offence to be recorded.

I bet even with video evidence they wouldn't do much.

There was someone on here who tried a while ago with video evidence, but was told by plod that it had to be witnessed by one of her majesty's constabulary. Or they just couldn't be arsed.

I've got a small collection of videos of drivers who have special dispensation "because their call is really important right?" but more often than not the cam doesn't pick them out in sufficient detail to kick up a fuss.

One of the reasons why i hate mobile phones.

that is totally wrong an irrational. mobile phones themselves are failry innocuous and can be very useful. It is inappropriate useage such as levaing them on you desk and set them on vibrate and max volume or as in the thread, using whilst driving, and that is due to people.

I cannot see why the police cannot do more - calls are logged and the base station that service the call would show location of the caller.

I can expect to see at least on driver using a mobile on a daily basis, b***tards should be shot.

I recently tried to report a particularly egregious taxi driver to the plods pics included, but they did everything possible to fob me off as they clearly couldn't be bothered.

Would one be able to make a citizen's arrest or how about taking the phone away from them leaving it somewhere or throwing it? Given that it's summer so many more drivers have their windows down. They are hardly likely to report you for criminal damage or theft as they were using it whilst driving? The police seem under resourced or just incapable of reducing this menace which only seems to be spreading. Fines should be quadrupled and perpetrators should receive 6 points on their licenses if they have one.

No, you can only use citizen arrests for serious incidents, not just for 'petty' acts of law breaking, such as littering and mobile phone use.

Should the person run someone over (while using a mobile) you could presumably arrest them for dangerous driving.

I'd be very careful doing a citizen's arrest. If done incorrectly you can get in trouble. For instance, if you arrest the person inside a shop, and then decide to move them outside (or similar), you could be done for kidnapping.

It's amazing what crap you can learn about on the internet ;)

It would take me all day to get to work if I started to report all the drivers using mobile phones.. and I would never get to work if I started to report those drivers who do not wear seatbelts
