Has anyone watched this film before? I did tonight, it's been an hour since it ended and i can't stop thinking about it. It's such a sad and shocking film. It's even affected me to the point i can't sleep, powerful stuff...
For anyone who doesn't know, it's about 4 individuals (all are linked in some way), the film concentrates on their drug addiction and resulting decline. It's a hard hitting movie, with no positive sections, it's just bad news after bad news. It's tremendously well produced in my opinion and would be a good tool to keep youngsters away from drugs. It sure has affected my views.

Sorry cant say I have

I watched it a couple of weeks ago for the third time. A fantastic film, based on a great book, by Hubert Selby Jr. Read the book, he also wrote Last Exit To Brooklyn which I can recommend too. Attempted to watch the film of that too but unfortunately the DVD was scratched to buggery and froze halfway through, will have to re-hire it.
Going back to Requiem, I can't believe that Ellen Burstyn (Sara, the mother) lost out on the best actress Oscar that year to Julia Roberts (Ellen Brockavitch). No justice. If you hired it on DVD, and it happens to be the 2 disc version, watch the feature on Selby, he led quite a fascinating life.
I intend to watch more of director Darren Aronofsky's efforts, apparently The Wrestler is a top notch film too.

I don't think it'll be shown on CBeebies anytime soon.

Also worth watching is his first effort 'Pi' - bit more surreal but just as dark and a good soundtrack if you like electronic noodling.

If bleak is your thing, also try 'Man Bites Dog'. It's in French but works ok with subtitles. Starts off quite darkly funny but turns darkly dark by the end. Scraped past the censors by all accounts.

It really is. And it's about as cheery as Requiem for a Dream.

It's a very good film, very well done- slightly changed from the book but I rate it highly.

Another bleak film is Breaking the Waves by Lars Von Trier (sp?)

Pi is interesting to watch too

I won't forget some bits of that film. Ever.

Requiem is great, as is the soundtrack. The main tune is called Lux Aeterna (sp?) by Clint Mansell I believe.

The very same Clint Mansell who used to co-front my all time favourite band Pop Will Eat Itself. Personally I think it's amusing how he went from a critically derided, terminally un-trendy "not a proper" band (they were pretty quick off the mark using samplers etc) to being a respected soundtrack composer.
