When I get in from my commute (10 mile round trip) I just put the bike in the garage and get in the shower.

Should I be doing some basic maintenance on my return, quick wipe down, oil the chain etc..

Same as you, any clean of bike etc can be done at weekends

I don't have a garage but I follow similar routine but as my commute is only 3 miles downhill on the way home, I don't always bother with a shower till the morning. During the week I only tend to do basic maintenance if needed and leave the cleaning until I can be bothered.

I just take the lights off, remove the pannier/trunk bag, put the computer thingy in my pocket and give the saddle a fond pat before closing the garage door

...anything that isnt critical waits for a spare afternoon / the weekend.

Shed, eh? There's posh. Mine goes under a bike cover in the back garden. Every Monday morning I check/correct the tyre pressure, and when necessary I re-lube the chain - maybe once every 3-4 weeks. I did clean it once....

Whichever bike I'm commuting on stays in back of car till next morning.

Others locked in garage, except SWorks which is in spare bedroom.

Weekend servicing on bikes I've used.

Change desiccant moisture absorbing sachets on SWorks every 3 months.

At this time of year in the UK councils often dump salt and grit all over the roads to stop ice forming. On wet rides that crap ends up all over your bike and it's not the kind of stuff you want to leave there for long because it corrodes metal parts. It's also very good at wearing out chains and cogs.

I'm currently cleaning the bike as soon as I get back from each ride. I don't do anything fancy, just use a lot of water and a soft brush to get 99% of the crap off. I then pick the bike up and drop it a few times to shake the water off the chain etc. A quick wipe down and that's it done.

Carry bike up to top-floor flat and it sits indoors in my hallway. Newspapers under it if it's been a wet ride home, and I'll give the chain a wipe down and lube too. Otherwise it's:

Lean bike against bookshelf in the hall.
Strip and put kit in washing machine.
Grab cat, get her thyroid tablet down her throat and then feed her.
Shower.
Wash bike in the bath at the weekend if it's filthy.

She's not bothered - I just have to be careful of sharp claws getting near to certain parts ( ) as she scrabbles to get away to the kitchen afterwards. (She's been conditioned over the last three months to associate nasty pill taking with a lovely bowl of dinner straight away when it's done.)

I take the bike indoors, then make a nice mug of tea and relax for a while before taking the shower. Bike cleaning, oiling etc. is mostly at the weekends but if it's been really wet and the roads are muddy then a wash down is carried out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
