I LOVE that film!!

Actually, I thought it was reasonably good. It was slated in the reviews, but I thought it was all right.

When I ride my bike, if I'm feeling laid back or tired, I pedal a bit, then freewheel a bit, then pedal a bit. When I do this, I always think of the opening credits of The Good Life, where the duck flies round the sun/flower, and flaps a bit, glides a bit, flaps a bit. And then I smile, because I loved The Good Life. And I always think of Tom Good's little whistling tune whenever he was working.

So today, I thought of Richard Briers.

I sometimes catch an episode of The Good Life, repeated on BBC2. Like Dad's Army, it hasn't really dated, and is a darn sight better than some more up to date stuff. I never tire of it.

I whistle that tune normally when I'm doing some diy and I am way out of my depth! As for dads army what can I say - superb as well!

Read an interview with him a couple of weeks ago. Apparently. he didn't like the Tom Good character at all.

I was whistling that very tune this morning. It wasn't a coincidence or premonition of death, it's something i whistle regularly to amuse myself.

I now have the "Rhoobarb and Custard" theme stuck in my head.

Oh dear, I'm very sorry, There's no cure for that, you'll have to be shot.

It's true Tom Good had his flaws! But Barbara usually got her own back eventually, which I guess was the reason it worked.

Pity a superb actor like Briars is remembered chiefly for this really; he did many more good things on stage, and on the radio as well.

The enemy was just telling me that she saw him play Lear in King Lear, many years ago, and he was quite brilliant in it.

It was that damn Tom Good whistle that got so ingrained in me that I find myself doing it whist DIYing. A gently funny guy.
