Highly interesting man and writer, just seen that he's on More4 right now with a film based on his book The God Delusion.:becool:

Yeh this was the second in a series, last week was on Faith Schools. Interesting stuff, his books are great.

I like his books and I always try to watch anything he does on TV. I have recorded the last few so must catch up.

He's such a bore.

Quite. I used to quite happy to identify myself as an atheist. These days I feel slightly embarrassed. I blame Dawkins.

To a certain extent now that he is no longer Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science I don't see why someone else couldn't have presented the programme. It does lead to the problem of blocking out other people's attempts at this sort of programme (from a different slant).

I don't mind that Dawkins is an atheist - everyone is entitled to their opinion. What I do find both objectionable and personally offensive is the way that he aggressively attacks religious beliefs - even those of people who bear him no ill will and seek only to do good for others.

For example, I have a friend who is a Christian minister, he's one of the most softly spoken, kind hearted and genuinely caring people I have ever met - and I am sure that Dawkins would take great delight in spitting anti-religious verbal venom at him.

I think that was what he was trying to answer in this programme - i.e. he says/implies that religious belief is damaging, or something like that.

Personally I think he's right

Whilst he comes across as the Worlds First Fundementalist Athiest I dont think he'd attack a person, mearly their beleif system. The Enemies of Reason film he did kind of proved that to me. If your beleif is your be-all and end-all then it strikes many that you would be borderline fundementalist. Those are the kinds of people who get most upset about Dawkins and co imvho.

I certainly think Dawkins is a species of fundamentalist, which is about as attractive a characteristic in atheists as it is in religious people.
