If you think you understand Quantum Physics you really don't. The spontaneous creation and disappearance of matter in a vacuum is one of the weirder parts of Q.P. but frankly so many of the results of Q.P. are counter intuitive that it is one of the branches of science with real possibilities for a breakthrough insight in the future. It works, if it didn't you wouldn't have modern computers, but there is still a lot more to learn.

2. Books/programmes explaining quantum mechanics confuse nearly everyone reading/watching because they understand less about the world than they did before
3. Trying to explain QM therefore leads to a reduction in the amount of informatin available in the universe, thereby leading to an increase in entropy, thereby leading to an earlier heat death of the universe than would otherwise have happened

Science will always find a way of figuring things out.

This is one of my pet hates this, people figure things out not 'science'. The idea that 'science' not 'people' figure things out is a bit of a throwback to the Age of the Enlightenment. Sorry for being a bit pedantic but it is an important distinction.

Saying science will figure things out is just a way of saying it's much bigger than people. Chopping away a small clearing in a large dark forest. That's not really at odds with User citing the idea of Plato's cave though.

"Science" refers to not just the techniques but the industry. So how could it be wrong?

Actually in Italy the Pope does.

A while ago was watching RAI Uno (the equivelent of BBC1 if you ignore the small aspect of quality/serious attempt at some form of objectivity).

Tuned in to see just what the 1 hour 40 min prog was on the Pope commemorating the birthday of a long dead pope.

Up pop the opening credits.

Rai Vaticano (and then "Eurovision).

Turns out (I didn't know) that Rai Vaticano is part of the state broadcaster.

I'd better not go into what I then found on the Rai Vaticano web site and blog - another debate.
