Riders from Team's Home Nation

Here's a pointless bit of stattery.

Have you ever wondered which WT teams have the most number of riders from the team's Licence Country? Well, wonder no more.

FDJ top the list with 23/29 French riders. Aside from that they have 2 Kiwis, a Luxemburger, one Swiss, and two Italians. That's positively cosmopolitan compared with Uno-X in second with 21 Norwegian riders out of 30 but all of the other 9 are Danish.

None of this is terribly surprising or, I'm afraid to say, very interesting.

Maybe I'll do a similar analysis for the WWT. Maybe I won't

Scatterplot of % from home country (or one country?) against UCI points so far this season, updated weekly, with some best fit analysis for any coreelation. Thanks in advance.

You'll also need to correlate with number of riders from country in the peloton / UCI points etc. so that we can find out if Frenchness is inherently bad for a ride/team. (Just to note, two actual brilliant French riders are coming through right now, which might skew things a little...)

I'm way ahead of you! I did that, well I did a scatter plot of wins so far this season. I should have done UCI points it's true. It was a right mess, so I didn't post it, but very broadly the teams that have more traditional regional loyalty are doing worse. And the rootless teams are doing better, especially UAE. But not Bahrain "Victorious".

I think Bahrain and UAE will be outliers, but in general I think DEI is probably good for a team, especially if it's French (Decathlon look far, far better than FDJ)

Euskatel Euskadi always score pretty highly on "home" riders, historically all Basques but still very Basque Spanish centric.

In a nerdy piece of trivia they also have the Van der Tuuk brothers on their roster, who compete for different nations - NL & Poland

Yes Euskaltel did come to my mind, but they're not WT. They have 15/20 Spanish riders but it's not really possible to tell if they are Basque without more knowledge/research.

And thanks for the nerdy fact. Didn't know that.
