RWG still seems to be free to me although I'm at work and access is fairly limited. From what I could see though I actually prefer the new look.

At first glance I seem to have everything I did have and needed. What I don't like is the new Google map colours but that's Google, not them.

What can you no longer do for free on ridewithgps that you could do previously? I can't see any difference in the mapping functionality on offer; I can still create and edit routes, and still export them.

tmesis: On first trial, editing and fullscreen functions seem to have disappeared but I note your comment re editing
dell: I have an opening for our map reading assistant.

probably out cycling
Yeah must say I don't like the new Ride with GPS interface, do not want.

Firstly its orange, like strava, I mean orange, really? Hideous.

Secondly its buggy as hell, i've tried searching the 'find' section for rides and it repeatedly crashes my firefox browser

Thirdly as mentioned it does'nt seem to be showing the elevation profile on the same page as the map, which I always found useful to see exactly where the cols actually are, bit of a massive fail.

Fourthly the 'rides' tab can only be accessed by signing into Facebook, give me strength, same as with Twitter, I'd rather cycle round the world using my face for tyres that join the white noise community.

And lastly the search for segments section has vanished so you can't even look up any segments in your area. Another major fail.

Overall RWGPS, D-, poor showing this term. Your early years promised much and saw some good improvements, but it seems this term you've really got in with the wrong crowd and have been led astray. Could do better. I'm verging on abandoning ship.

'#don't like change, its was better in the olden days, evolution regressing back to the ameoba etc

Here for rides.
I'm with Greg on this. Best site by far. Because you can see the OS map, you can be sure you are using a real road
Sometimes I just click on my house, then click on my destination (using the opencyclemaps routing algorithm) and dump the route to my GPS and go.

As a result I now know what it is like to ride a fixed gear bike on 28mm tyres uphill for 1000 yards on a stony and rubble strewn bridleway fringed with stinging nettles and covered in ar5e fruit from the local horses.

Next time I'll check the map more thoroughly. (Preparation isn't my thing really.)

Since the change a climb that was 5km at an average of 3% is now a climb of 5km at an average of 2.8%

One of the mapping sites is remarkably conservative with their climbing figures, can't remember which one it is. They explain somewhere on their site why they use the algorithm that they do - it does lead to some quite marked differences between them and other sites.

Cheers for the bikehike steer. Just had a play and its superb. Have been using ridewithgps for ages, but although I have got to grips with the new interface the integration to OS maps on bikehike is genius.

The only things is...

...don't leave your route planning until late evening if you are going to rely on the OS maps. There is a finite limit to the number of map 'tiles' the OS hand out to bikehike, and other mapping services for free each day after which "Sorry this map cannot be displayed" replaces the OS maps! Seems to happen more at this time of year, I would guess as more folk are doing more route planning!
