I'm not in the market for (yet) another bike! But this looks like quite a bargain for a fun little commuter / mini-cargo bike

20" wheels, front rack, hydro discs, 54nm rear hub motor, 8 spd Microshift

375Wh battery according to

https://www.ridgeback.co.uk/ridgeback-errand-varrb2213err

Can't easily spot bike weight, but I'd expect it could ~40+ miles in eco mode.

Bargain for £700, same price direct from Ridgeback!

I think I prefer the red frame for visibility. Possibly less likely to be mobbed around Southampton too by footy fans!

Google think it weighs 19-20Kg. But you could remove the front luggage bracket, kickstand and basic rear wheel security lock and probably reduce the weight by 2-3Kg!

No obvious bottle cage mounts, but you could get around that with those Topeak mounts that are designed for seat posts; stems and bars. Or use something like the PlanetX soft bottle holder I have that comes with elasticated bands that you thread through the holder's hoops and around bits of bike.

Possibly a bit weary of the external battery, maybe could do with a good waterproof cover, that could also help prevent the battery getting cold (reducing capacity) in winter.

I've never had a 20" wheel bike as an adult... With me being ~94Kg fit to be seen by the general public and with the bike being say 19Kg, what sort of pressure would those 2" Big Apples need and would I need new teeth after a 30min ride?

Longleat Center Parcs had I think a Ridgeback Advanced model as their hire ebikes in Sept '24 and it was great around Gare Hill and Kingsettle Hill by King Alfreds Tower.

Can't find a tyre pressure calculator that does 20" wheels but I'm a similar weight and have a 20" folder with 1 3/8" tyres and usually put 55-60 psi in them. For 2" tyres I imagine 50 would be fine.

As to the battery, that is the plastic external casing that you see. They're designed to be external. Millions of ebikes have similar batteries. I had a similar one on the Woosh conversion I did on my Giant hybrid. I wouldn't jet wash it but it should be rainproof.

Anyone been tempted?

If it was a folding bike, I'd be tempted, as something I could take on the train.

If I thought I was ready to try and work again and job site was more than ~2 miles away and down near Southampton city centre, I'd be tempted to buy one as a commuter to get back up the hill on the eastern edge of the city. Wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my gravel ebike locked up outside all day, it would effectively be an ebike version of my Voodoo Marasa commuter.
