A few when I was young and stupid.

First, setting up front derailleur spinning pedals and got my finger stuck between the pedals (cage type) and the crank and tore the end of my little finger off the bone with a nice jagged scar.

Second, riding along the pavement taking to a mate (only 12-13 so excusable) front wheel hit lampost, back wheel came up and I headbutted the concrete lamppost. Overnight stay in hospital with concussion.

And final non-bike related was a snowball injury. Snowballing with mates, thought there's a load of snow on than greenhouse roof. Cue me scraping snow off glass roof without gloves....why's the snow gone all red???? Closely followed by me passing out and my parent running down the garden wondering why I'm covered in blood and lying by the base of the greenhouse. Several deep lacerations of the fingers and palms. My hands were so cold I didn't feel anything until they defrosted.

Was cycling from Skipton to Leeds along the Leeds-Liverpool canal and stopped at Dowley Gap for my packed sandwich, I like this spot, can sit on the low wall with the canal in front of you and the River Aire, complete with little sandy beaches, below, it's an idyllic spot. I leaned backwards, I don't know why, I was zoned out with pleasure. I fell backwards, maybe 30', into the River Aire. Suffered a severe arm injury that led to 3 months in a cast and nearly 6 months off bikes.

I'd spent a day biking from Edale to Hayfield when I stopped to take a picture. I stepped back a bit and slipped on some mud and dislocated my lower leg from my knee. Fortunately I was on a road and help came pretty soon and the paramedics slipped it back in to place. More photography related I guess but the people who found me assumed I'd fallen off the bike, even though it was propped up against a wall.

On Saturday I was trying to pull apart the two halves of a two-part multitool which had become stuck together. They suddenly separated, and the back of my left hand made high-velocity contact with this:

Five spines embedded themselves to a depth of several mm, OWWWW! My hand's still sore now.

Not bike related but cactus related....

My younger son knocked a similar cactus off the widow ledge on the staircase of our house.

Rather than see it damaged he caught it before it hit the stairs, yelled with pain and threw it upwards before catching it again, screaming with agony and managing to get it back onto the window ledge.

Dedication or stupidity?

I'll let you decide.

I thought that it was entertaining.

i've annoyed the mr's reading this laughing to loudly. I had one when i was about 4/5 on my dads bike with my sister on a saddle on the cross bar with the foot rests on the down tube. my sister needed to tighten her pony tail and asked me to hold the bars! next thing i knew we were on the floor and i had bitten through my bottom lip and had a brake lever in my mouth via my bottom jaw just behind my chin lovely

ive also had an old metal caged pedal stick in my knee from a pedal slip whilst getting of so i had all ready stopped when it hit i let got of the bike but it didnt fall over untill my mate came over and pulled on the bike to see what all the fuss was about i now have a dead patch on my left knee with no feeling ha ha

I borrowed my dad's bike a few times when I was a kid. It was too big for me but I managed to ride it just fine. I found out it was too heavy to easily carry or push up the steps near the bowling club when I gashed my leg open with the strut that supported the rear mudguard.

Had this week off of work and, on Tuesday, went out for an early hack on the roadies with the Mrs. Lovely ride - caught the best part of the day (on the road before 07:00). On the way home - after a nie coffee stop - we were pulling away from some lights - an uphill junction and turning left. As I pulled away, I was aware that my right foot was not clipped in but, for some reason, felt the need to stand on the pedals. That all went well until the inevitable happened and my right foot slipped off of the pedal. That all ended up with me flat on my backside in the road - what a nob!!! Now got bruises appearing in places that I wasn't even aware I'd hit!!!

Like they say - you live and learn, don't you.

All but removed a finger nail putting the wheel back on, making certain that it went back correctly, not catching it on the disc brake pads.
Red fluid seen running down the forks & I couldn't work out what it was or where it was coming from at first.

I managed to break my elbow after hitting a kids scooter and falling off my bike, (it was abandoned and unseen on a dark path a few winters ago).

I was maneuvering through staggered railings and was travelling at about 2 mph max. Didn't see the damned thing, next thing I knew I'd hit it and due to the very low speed didn't have the momentum to do anything and went down like a sack of spuds!

Managed to ride home, (half a mile), put a brave face on it until Mrs S's incessant moaning made me go to A&E, one x-ray later and one broken elbow confirmed, bugger!

On a plus note it put an end to my playing golf, and the ensuing sale of all my golf paraphernalia bought me a new bike

My daughter gave herself an injury today which she didn't certainly consider ridiculous but which might be appropriate for this thread.

I won't go into the details, beyond saying that her normal bike has V-brakes and she had a play on mine with hydraulic discs today. They stopped her fast enough for her to slide forward off the saddle and onto the top tube.

I once went for a nice gentle ride along the canal towpath and dug my chainring into a wooden step by a lock. I toppled sideways over a small wall that was about a foot high my side, but a 15 foot drop the other. I crushed two vertebrae!
