Riding in jeans

What people think about riding in jeans.

Today I had to ride about 11 miles in jeans and it was very comfortable indeed. Never ridden so long before so this was a nice surprise...... mind you, I was riding on my Brooks Swallow and anything is ok with that saddle.

The only thing I missed from my cycling clothes was the wind on my legs so I'm seriously considering cutting the legs of a pair of shorts.

For gentle rides up to about 25 miles, I always wear jeans and boxers if it isn't hot. I've never found it to be a problem as long as it isn't wet. Above 25, lycra sets in. My saddle is a Charge Spoon. BTW, a lot of people don't like jeans at all. Fair enough.

I often ride in heavy cotton cargo shorts (with front pockets) These are almost identical to jeans in weight and cut and I can ride anything upto 100 miles like this without any discomfort. I wear a nice snug pair of boxers underneath. The only problem comes when it rains as heavy, damp denim is not a nice place to be.

I say wear what you want and don't be swayed by what others think. My mate rides his road bike wearing jeans all the time.

If it rains or it's too hot then jeans are horrible for cycling in, but they're fine the rest of the time. I wear jeans in work most days and do the 5 mile commute in them without any problems.

I have never and would never cycle in a pair of jeans. But each to their own!

Wear them on my MTB but if they get wet its not nice.

I frequently wear jeans - but not all of my jeans. Depends on the cut and fabric as to how comfortable each pair is (as with the rest of the clothes I wear on the bike) - and when I'm buying jeans I usually look for a little give in the material as to how well it will bend at the knee.

I did 20 miles yesterday in them ... although they were a little too hot on the afternoon commute!

I can ride my hybrid in jeans but only for short journeys, such as the 2.5 miles to work, but other times I struggle in them as I get too hot. I've never tried wearing them on my road bike.
