Had one of those moments last night that almost has me thinking there is a "grand design". I was approaching my usual turn off from the A23 down towards Greyhound Lane but couldn't get to the ASL due to the traffic ahead being rather tightly packed so I waited in primary behind the car in the right hand lane (it's a 2>1 lane right turn, being in that lane allows for greater control and avoids the gutter which is shite.....)

As I was sat there I noticed the young chap in the van alongside me was on his phone. A common sight here except tonight was different....I remembered that I'd only just stopped ahead of a police car at the previous set and hadn't seen them pass on my left :-) A quick check behind confirms that I do have them behind me

I gave a quick phone hand gesture and pointed back towards the van and the policeman in the driving seat seemed to acknowledge my gestures. As the lights went green Mr phone user finishes his conversation but continues to play with the phone as we take the corner. Once safely round I pull left and let the police car past, who about 1/4 mile down the road once it's opened up a little turn on the blue lights and pull over the van driver for a little chat

Caught the whole thing on the trusty helmet cam which can be viewed here.

I'm sure the pleasure was all yours, but your footage does not show anyone using a mobile phone whilst driving. In fact it doesn't show anyone at all except you moving through traffic.

I'm not sure what point you are making here unless it's just to criticise the quality of a video made on a dark wet night.

Well I guess you'll either have to just take my word for it or trying watching it in fullscreen @720p - the phone up to his ear was clearly visible and he continued to use it as we turned the corner which was easier to spot as we turned the corner and I got a nice side on view of the screen glowing in his hand.

I would have tried to include a screen grab last night but it was getting rather late when I finally got round to editing the clip out ;-) May have a look at the footage again later, Shotwell can usually do a reasonable job of enhancing dark shots :-)

Errr .......... quality doesn't come into it. Simply cannot see any vehicle where a driver is using a mobile phone whilst driving. I watched it twice as well. I don't doubt for one second that what the OP said happened actually took place, but AFAICS his camera footage doesn't show this despite him stating, "Caught the whole thing on the trusty helmet cam which can be viewed here. " I was expecting to see footage showing some WVM with it glued to his ear. I feel a little disappointed ;) .

I've overheard a couple of police stops for mobile phones, one a neighbour, it's gone along the lines of "was that a life or death/emergency service call?" *explains the dangers* "don't do it again"
I hope that works.

I've seen coppers using their mobiles whilst driving so very possibly your proposed scenario will take place.
