Right turning cars when filtering

At the end of my morning commute, I am normally met with a lot of traffic attempting to get into the college. When in college grounds, there are very hard speed bumps with gaps at the sides. These gaps allow enough room for me to fit through.

I normally filter past the traffic in the college as most people are looking for parking spaces (very congested). During my period of filtering, I often have people turning right either across my path, or nearly hitting my back wheel.

I am fully aware of what they are doing but still dont expect someone to just veer right. One day someone is going to turn abruptly without checking their mirrors and hit me.
Why can people not use mirrors?

Learn the signs of it about to happen and prepare to stop if required.

I made the mistake of not seeing a gap in the road ahead and this happened -

I'm assuming we're talking about stop-start sort of traffic as people attempt to find parking spaces - Just keep your speed down, watch front wheels of cars - If they're not facing straight on, assume the car is going to turn and go the opposite way around it. Obviously watch indicators as well, although don't rely on people using them.

Just be ready to stop and covering the brakes at all times.

I cover the brakes all the time when filtering because I often have to nip back into the flow when an oncoming car is coming (if I am in the oncoming lane).
When filtering though, these turning cars rarely use indicators and dont bother with mirrors even though there are about 10 cyclists who use the facilities at the college and they should be aware of their surroundings.
I am always careful when filtering though and today, as I sit in college, hasnt been too bad as I arrived earlier than I normally do (missed the rush hour). Commuting home tonight is going to be tiring though. 8pm with a 1hr15min ride home after a full day of college. I am yawning just thinking about it.:tired::sad:

I'd filter, but try and join into the actual line of traffic prior to making the turn, then right-turn same as if I were in a car. Slower but safer?

Sorry, I only turn right at the entrance of the college. I am then filtering inside the college which is where the problems are (veering to spaces). I am filtering straight through the college car park as my block building and where I lock my bike is located at the rear. Just thought I would make that clear.

Ah, yes, I misunderstood you. I'd still not filter, or just get off and walk the last few meters.

This sounds more like a problem created. Bearing in mind that this is off the road so the motorists are paying even less attention than they normally do, the wise thing is to stay out of their way, not throw things at their cars.

You need to be looking ahead to spot potential parking places and turnings where the cars are likely to turn into. There's a lot to take in to help you anticipate what the drivers are likely to do, but it sounds like you are making a good job of it so far.
