Former BBC Radio 1 DJ and Live Aid presenter Andy Kershaw has died aged 66, his family has confirmed, saying he died around 19:30 BST on Thursday.
It had been announced in January that the broadcaster, who also had his own podcast, had been diagnosed with cancer and was unable to walk.
Kershaw was a familiar voice on Radio 1 for 15 years from 1985, known for his eclectic taste and for helping champion world music.
He went on to report for Radio 4, both on music and global conflicts including the 1994 Rwanda Genocide and civil war in Sierra Leone in 2001.

Just heard that on BBC news. Too young (as is, sadly, often the case).

I read it that they agreed to move to IOM for a new start but near the day they arrived she left him, 100% estrangement from his kids aggravating his mental downfall.

Was he the only one willing to try, we will never know. But with the separation so catastrophic for his mental state, it is easy to see why he had willingly upped sticks from his London work base.

Stunned. I knew nothing of his troubles, knowing him only for his love for non-mainstream music. I had the pleasure of meeting him once, in a bar in Brussels in the 90s. Really nice bloke, enthusiastic and genuine. I can recall his face as we chatted.

I liked him, but at the very least he was naive, how many chances was he given. Hopefully he is now at rest playing some tracks and sharing his great accent with some friends.
