I met him a couple of times, as he grew up in the same village as I did
I knew his dad, Joe, before he died, plus knew his sister/her hubby/their 2 sons

For those who may not know, he married Tom Simpsons widow

That's sad news. He married Tom Simpson's widow, Helen. Tom's nephew, Chris Sidwells, interviewed him several times for Cycling Legends.

And one of mine. It seems strange now with British riders competing and winning at the highest level, but back then it was huge news in the cycling community when Hoban won a TdF stage.

Very sad news.

I seem to recall an interview with him a few years ago where he mentioned he was using an ebike to join social club runs. As others have said, seems to have been a decent sort along with being an important figure within British cycling history.
