The character of Blakey was a great comic creation and one which was really of its time. I suspect the mildly sadistic jobsworth who sucked up to the bosses was familiar to much of the audience from their own workplaces. The series (like many of its kind) hasn't aged well, but some characters endear, don't they?

I always feel sad about the focus on a single role

Buried amongst the other credits is the fact that he wrote a play that gave a young Barbara Windsor a step on the ladder

Another fine actor and far deeper skills than the "on the buses" credits recognise

Not sure that the Tube workers have advanced beyond this

Cant have been easy wearing a Hitler moustache less than 20 years after WWII.
Watching repeats reminds you how little traffic there was back then.

So much comedy is a "child of it's time"

The "little Hitler" stereotype was the basis for this character - hence the moustache

Much of the content of these programmes would be unacceptable if first broadcast today

The old lady Mrs Doris Hoare was born in a caravan under the Bargoed railway viaduct. Her family were travelling performers. Sarah Greene (wife of Mike Smith) her dad was from Bargoed and was the first celebrity DIY guy.
