Met him once when he was on the Scottish development team on tour in Tonga. We played snooker against a few of the team - they were great sports but cheated dreadfully
He was charming even then, 30 years ago - a true giant
Met him when he was working with Carlsberg after he retired from rugby. A really nice guy who genuinely made an impression. Hugely well regarded amongst my customers in the Borders, he seems to have done a lot in the community.
Awful disease - I was misdiagnosed with MND some years ago by a fool of a GP.
Unfortunately it takes months of tests to confirm one way or another whether you do or do not have the disease. Far and away the worst period of mine and my wife's lives.
Eventually I was given the all clear- if I hadn't I know for a fact I would not have handled the situation as bravely as Doddie. Every credit to him.
