It seems the Crafty Cockney is no more having succumbed to a heart atack.

By biggest memory of him is his culpability in the injury to my left hand aged 12. I was in such a hurry to get to the shops and back home to see if Keith Deller was going to beat him in the world darts final that I slipped and fell on a broken Irn Bru bottle and suffered nerve and tendon damage to my hand which still causes issues today.

Just seen this, sad, only days after Ray Wilkins too.

An utterly despicable person*

*Yes, I know, speaking ill of the dead, blah, blah, blah...
I disagree. He had some “old fashioned views” He was a dinosaur in a multi media age.

But what he did for the sport of darts can never be under estimated. He helped turn it from a pub game into a professional sport that rewards the top players with substantial prize money.

Sorry to hear about his death and the hand - the late Sid Waddell's quote springs to mind

"When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer … Bristow's only 27."

I played Eric about 8 years ago in an exhibition and was delighted to beat him. He was great fun all night and a true gentleman. His Q&A session at the end was eye opening. Without Eric there would be no PDC or Phil Taylor, what he's done for the sport is remarkable.

RIP Eric, you will be missed x
