RIP he achieved a lot. I didn't really care for him much to be honest, I don't care for Taylor either. Then again characters make darts what it is, without them it would be a touch bland.

By sheer coincidence,we were only talking about famous darts players, down the pub last night. Then the news about EB came through. Someone said he'd only been in these parts (1.5 mile away) the other week for an exhibition match. They said he'd "been on the lash" before the match and was "pissed out of his head" during the exhibition session, with people wanting to buy him pints all the time. It sounds like he had a few problems which contributed to his death.

I don't think he's going to like the kiss much.

Bristow's defence lawyer when he was accused with punching his wife argued that he couldn't have punched her properly because she wasn't injured enough. As in - don't make a fuss, little lady, if he wanted to kill you, your face would be a pulp.

'True Gentleman'. 'Character'. Said the members of the jury.

When @User33236 started this thread the title was RIP Eric Bristow ........as against 'what is your opinion of Eric Bristow'.
I think we should respect the OP instead of using it to slag off a deceased person.
BTW.......I am not a fan of Bristow as a person but appreciated his skill.

Had anyone bothered to start a thread while he was still alive, called 'In Praise of Eric Bristow', it would have got the same response. It's a bit nauseating, although unsurprising, to see people lauding him as a 'true gentleman' and a 'character'. No one is disputing that he could play darts. His most recent claim to fame, as Smeggers, says, is denigrating the victims of a child abuser, who were already being courageous in speaking out in a culture of putting up with it and shutting up, and insinuating that gay men are paedophiles. He was awful.

I agree with everything you say. My point was/is the OP started a thread and we should respect that....not completely derail it with derogatory comments (even if they are true)

I personally have no feelings regarding the man or his death. He was simply an individual linked to a significant event in my life.

Eric Bristow was universally disliked where I grew up and everyone was on the edge of their seats wishing the underdog Deller to win.

I recall resenting the fact I’d been asked to go to the shops during the game and, being in a hurry to get back, had the incident that caused me injury.

I remember, despite the blood loss and the 4 inch gaping wound in my hand, the first question I asked when I arrived at the hospital being ‘has Deller beaten Bristow yet?’ and being happy to hear he had. ^_^
