Sad news but he'd had Alzheimer's for a while now, RIP Gene.

Yes, we lost him a long time ago.

A real tragedy was his Blazing Saddles co-star, Cleavon Little, who died of cancer 25 years ago

Apparently Mel Brooks is now the only living main cast member from Blazing Saddles.

Aw no, he was a stalwart of many of my favourite films, big Mel Brooks fan, The Producers and the peerless Young Frankenstein really showed a range of comic timing and acting that made the great writing really come to life.

This is one guy who has left an indelible & beautifully funny mark on my life.

I saw him when I was student in Grenoble; the uni laid on a showing of The World's Greatest Lover (Un Drôle de Séducteur) with a Q&A session afterwards with the man himself. He was very modest and likeable.

Provided a substantial background to my growing up. One of the first films I was taken to the pictures to see was the Willie Wonka one and the first film I took a young lady to was Blazing Saddles. Loved that guy!
