Aged 73 of kidney failure.

His music was total marmite.

Over the top production was his style but he sure knew how to pen a classic song. And with Meatloaf as his front man he created one of the best albums of all time.

A very distinct sound (which I enjoyed).
Think he worked with Bonnie Tyler ??
Bat out of hell......a real classic.

By all accounts he wasn't a great producer either. He was signed up to produce Def Leppard's Hysteria album , but his recordings were rubbish so they scrapped them & him. People forget that both Bat Out Of Hell and the follow up Bad For Good (which featured Jim's vocals rather than Meatloafs) were both produced by Todd Rundgren.

One of his greatest assets was realising that he wasn’t a great singer or frontman. His skill was song writing. He was clear headed enough to see that, which I imagine many people wouldn’t be.

Just listen to his own weak and thin version of a song he wrote compared to the Meatloaf version.

Must admit i'd never heard of him, but you can hear the connection with Meatloaf through some of the tracks above.

Not my cup of tea but RIP anyway.
