My neighbour killed my cat, he was mortified.

It was about 8 years ago and he can still hardly look me in the eye!

Our ageing moggy was going deaf and slightly gaga and she would fall a sleep on our drive ,yes that's right ! I came home one sunny afternoon and drove straight over the top of her,so feeling really bad had to dig a hole and do the pet burial thing ,I was in the so called dog house for a day ,but it was a shock for all

Me too. Both bike wheels right over it. I stopped, all ready to sympathetically bludgeon it out of its misery, but it kept on running somehow! Last Friday, another squirrel nutjob did the freak-out-on-the-safe-verge-then-dart-madly-in-the-wrong-direction-and-into-the-road thing, so nearly becoming another one of these:

And I saw a cat successfully shoot between the wheels (i.e. under the bottom bracket) of the rider in front of me on a club ride many years ago - we were doing about 25mph, so the cat's spatial and speed judgement, not to mention optimism, must have been A1........

It have been nice to stop & check for a phone number on a collar & save someone wondering where kitty is until they go looking and get a nasty graphic shock.

surely if you'd been driving at a safe speed for the conditions, you'd have been able to stop in time







ps... i'm yet to meet a cat that hasn't worked it's way out of its collar within a day or two... cats just don't do collars.

I was at 35 mph in a 40 limit...if i could hav estopped i would have...it just moved so quick..and it was on th epavement across the road...my eyes were on the road...bang ...firs ti knew of it it was under my wheel.

Stopping to check it after you'd hit it would still have been the right thing to do!!

Yes..I'm not denying that. Hindsight is a good thing. It was 3am ish, the cat was in several pieces, there was nothing I could do for the poor thing. TBH I was thinking about th cat, driving safe and the owner (if there is one) didn't crosss my mind at the time. Please shoot me in the head.

Don't feel so bad mate as there was nothing you could do . My 16 /17 year old cat was hit last year and managed to drag himself back home with a broken pelvis . He was pulling himself along by his front legs when I heard his calls The bill to fix him was massive and hurt my wallet but hes my mate and wasn't ill , just broken a bit . I feel no anger towards the driver , in fact it must have been horrible for them and my mate is now another year older with a bionic leg sat on my lap right now purrrrring . Oh and farting

This is a sad little tale,and maybe someone is out looking or putting posters up on lamposts right now.
But it has happened before and will happen again,My mate did the same,on a badly lit country lane with just one house on it.So he stopped knocked on the door,and inquired do you have a cat,it's just that i have hit one with my car.
What did it look like came back the reply.

Our cats are chipped and have collars with name tags and a phone number. I don't believe anybody would bother to contact us though, most people are too miserable, selfish and lacking in public spirit.

You didn't stop to check that the poor thing really was dead?

It's cold and dark at 3am so probably easier to reverse over it to make sure. Save a little bit of time as well.
