RIP Lou Reed

Rock 'n' Roll Animal and Transformer were two of the first decent albums I bought and he opened the door on a lot of other artists I still love today - he reminds me of that Hunter S Thompson quote about skidding broadside into the grave... will be missed very much!

Great collection of links here: http://boingboing.net/2013/10/27/lou-reed-guitarist-and-rock-m.html

FWIW, although I love the Velvet Underground, I strongly disagree with some of the things I have seen that claim it was all downhill for Lou Reed after VU (or whatever Velvets album). My favourite piece of work by Lou Reed is the album, New York. Romeo had Juliet, Dirty Blvd and Last Great American Whale are some of the angriest and wittiest songs that he ever wrote:

Never stopped writing great lyrics neither...

"Why stop at one, I might have ten, regular tv brood,
I'd raise a little liberal army in the woods
Just like these redneck lunatics I see at the local bar,
With their tribe of inbred mutant piglets with cloven hooves"

They played "Walk on the Wild Side" on Radio 3 this morning. I think I'd heard of him, and I assume "Perfect Day" is the same "Perfect Day" I'm thinking of. (Yes, I listen to Radio 3. My musical interests lie in different areas...) He must have been quite influential to get the lines
"She never lost her head
Even when she was giving head..."
played on Radio 3....

Surely Radio 3 must have played Tom Ades' Powder Her Face at some point.

I always admired his utter disdain for west coast rock and hippies (although who knows if he actually meant it).
