Growing up in the North West I was always one line ahead of the punch line, yet it's familiarity cracked me, and all of my family up.
Ricky Tomlinson was the spitting image of my dad, and he was using the phrase 'my arse' decades before the Royle Family.

Having made so many people laugh is a great use of the short time she had.

That was an episode among episodes. Fantastically emotional and wonderfully written.
She was a rare breed of comedy genius.
The attention to detail in the whole of the Royle family was astonishingly good.

I never saw Mrs Merton*, just watch a bit now - the Debbie McGee moment. That is very funny, but it's sad that she didn't live to Mrs Merton's age (somewhere between 60 and 75, I'd guess).

*Loved her work on The Fast Show. Couldn't watch The Royle Family, as watching them staring slack jawed at the TV, though very real, made me conscious that I was also staring, slack jawed, at the TV

There were a few fairly intrusive recent photos of her going around this weekend. Not very nice and they didn't serve any purpose apart from giving the ghouls a bit of pleasure.
I saw an interview with her where she said she was born with cancer including cancer of the retinas. How did they preserve her sight i wonder?
