Now that does make me feel old, I remember when they did "shiny happy people".

Mind you, that's the only song of theirs that I know, my genre is more German hardcore, electro metal, industrial metal, death metal, techno metal, industrial death metal, death electro techno metal, german death techno, industrial german hard techocore death death death, etc ...

Anyone who is into German hardcore is OK in my book.

I should point out that I can't imagine any band who were even remotely rocknroll having their demise reported on BBC Radio 4, as REM's was. I don't remember McLusky's break up featuring particularly heavily, for instance. Let's face it, they may well have been innovative and interesting once upon a time - perhaps when they were still on the college rock circuit, scraping a living and with lots to say - but not when they were knocking out tedious radio friendly drivel like "Shiny Happy People" or "Everybody Hurts".
