Wasn't he producer of Today on R4 for a while, IIRC...?
Today had its moments but was generally fairly neutral back then. I used to be an avid R4 fan but binned it off over a decade ago.
I dont think he did anyone any harm, so his passing is sad.
Probably won't have many friends in here or NCAAP but a free thinker and someone not scared to speak his mind. I will miss his commentary and columns.
He was a vile human being. I genuinely can't think of a single redeeming feature of him, but I fear even documenting some of the things he's said here would be viewed as inherently political. So I'll leave it there.
'Vile'? Such vitriol! You didn't agree with his political opinions so the bloke who's just died is 'vile' in your book!! Honestly! 😏

I'll tell you why many regard him as a vile man (in addition to the aforementioned assault of his pregnant partner) without going into his politics.
You may or may not be aware of the following:
In 2012, he wrote a column in The Spectator about a teacher who’d run off to France with a 15-year-old pupil. Liddle stated that the one thing that had kept him out of teaching was that he “could not remotely conceive of not trying to shag the kids.”
A few years earlier, in the Guardian, he’d asked in a headline whether it should “really be a crime to look at child pornography" (better known as child sexual abuse), basing the question around Pete Townshend, who’d claimed he accessed such material as research.
