Who has passed away at the age of 92.
Many will remember his campaign to get compensation for the victims of Thalidomide while at The Times. He later quit after falling out with Murdoch when he took over. Years later during the Leveson inquiry he described him as 'the devil incarnate'.

He oversaw a great period of journalism at the ST.
RIP.
yes, the Sunday Times pre murdoch was a great newspaper. Probably never see its like again.
A time when it was worthwhile sitting down with the sunday papers.
He also wrote some very good books on journalism.
I have a copy of his "Newsman's English" on my bookshelf - he was a great champion of clear communication.
A lancastrian of course.
RIP.
