I will always remember him in his iconic white and gold uniform.

Sad news........ Grew up watching Star Trek (and still watching it now on CBS action).....

Inventor of the Vulcan nerve grip. None of us discovered the knack to it in the playground, but we tried our best.

I suspected him of being a teeny weeny bit vain, but he certainly made the character of Spock cooler than he would have been.

I didn't really mind when Kirk died in Generations, or Tasha Yar, or even Data.
But when Spock died, I was in tears.
"Of all the souls I have encountered, his was the most ... human."
OK. I've just got that scene up on YouTube. And it's happened again.
*sniffles*

As has been pointed out, I am sure George Takei will be interested to see that his demise had been greatly exaggerated!!

Here is what George Takei had to say:
Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend. We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to "Live Long And Prosper," and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.

He'll be missed. Apart from all those original Star Trek episodes, I remember having the pleasant surprise of seeing him appear in a 2-part episode in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and also his memorable appearance in Fringe as William Bell.
