I felt really bad for him because he was suffering in what must have been torturous for him mentally. In interviews a few years ago IIRC he struggled to explain then that it was more about the lack of an exit that kept him in a horrible depression, that if he knew he could turn off if he got to the point to decide to, he would be more able to take things day by day and keep going. In the last year or so when Id seen him on TV it seemed to have just gotten way too much for him and he just wanted out.

I'm sure all of that is actually true, but I don't see the point of trolling threads Vernon. People don't come on your pie threads or other personal threads and troll them all the time. RIP threads aren't my cup of tea but you know perfectly well why people have posted.

I understand what you mean and have some sympathy with your comment but the issues raised by this case and other similar ones are I believe complex. Its so easy to look at one very sad and deserving case in isolation but if we are not careful, decisions that we would all sympathise with can lead us on to slippery slope. However, your point is well made IMO and our representatives should be working to give such unfortunate people what they want with all appropriate safe guards in place. No one should be made to suffer in this way.

Perspective, please fella - nobody on the thread has died. Someone who has recently been in the news has died and I was just challenging an arrogant fool who appears to enjoy trolling a little too much.

I'm relieved he has died, as that is what he says he wanted. Having known someone who had a stroke at 18 from a very active life and left in a broadly similar condition I can only imagine what it must have been like .

it is not stupid; it is honest. why the pretence and fake outpourings of grief/sympathy for someone you never came in contact or knew? thousands died today, same number yesterday and same again will die tomorrow, the day after ..... why is this one person more special than the others to receive special treatment? NOONE has enough sympathy to genuinely feel sorry for all those people. sure you can post RIP messages and sympathy but is it not really from the heart so why do it? (it happens on many forums) am i sorry this has happened? no. am I happy? no. do I care? can't say I do. tell me why I should.

It's just etiquette. ASC1951 and to a lesser extent vernon are mature enough in years to not pointlessly post on someone else's thread. They are both aware of the case, they are aware that everyone else knows what they are saying and so on. There will be many other people who share precisely the views they do, the difference being they weren't immature and insensitive enough to post about it. If you want that sort of thread, go to CA&D and we can argue discuss it. I also think there's a difference between people saying something at the time and a few days later. So they think people's sentiments are stupid. Maybe a lot of people think that and don't post at all. Who cares. Don't post.

People don't post on vernon's many pie and other personal threads saying what an annoying person he is and who cares about his pies why doesn't he get a life do they? No. There you go.
