I disagree very strongly with the above sentiments. I'd love to know where I've posted the the sort of things that you have accused me of. No one owns a thread. Folk are free to post whatever they like in any thread that I have initiated and I expect to be able to post comments in any thread present. I don't mind being challenged on factual matters but inference leaves a lot of room for dodgy and inaccurate interpretations.
Too much has been read into what I have posted and what ASC1951 added. Stupidity was a term introduced by a poster who confused honesty with opinion and was never used by me.
Nobody owns a thread, you are free to post whatever you like, but that doesn't mean that it won't look out of place/insensitive/immature/be misunderstood. The same most certainly goes for myself if I post on these sorts of threads. I think there's a difference posting immediately saying those sort of sentiments and doing so a few days or weeks later (you were in there 14 mins in). So I would say posting the bleedin' obvious that does or might be seen to question the feelings/sentiments of others at the immediate time is insensitive. Plenty of other people probably feel the same but manage to keep quiet. You might well be right, but it looks like being a smart arse. I don't personally believe in certain things, but if I went round loudly repeating it in public people would think I was a total tosser. You might say ah well that's quite different and grief is a personal thing and shouldn't be mixed up with superficial internet RIP threads. Well to an extent, but RIP happens in real life, it's not something that just happens on the internet at all. How do you know the relationship between those sentiments and other things? And how do you know what these other people think? I certainly don't, so how the smeg do you?
There's a golden rule of this sort of thread that I've broken myself just now- don't post on them for fear of it looking silly or being misunderstood. I think that's true of your posts too. Very true indeed. I've done it occasionally certainly.
You've been around the block, you've seen countless threads like this before. Perhaps you're misunderstanding other people as well as them misunderstanding yours. Perhaps some people on here have known someone with locked in syndrome and not said? Perhaps for them it's very important for them to post and not say? How would you know? Perhaps they've known people with devastating strokes? Perhaps they've known people with MND or various other things.
So in that context I think it is insensitive and immature. The immature bit mostly being applied, because you've used forums a long time, you've had a lot of life experiences, you've posted on other people dying early threads - you most certainly should know better. You really, really should, do I need to list any other reasons why you should know better? You generally seem to post quite grumpy 'spoiler' posts in the cafe threads and other areas anyway. We all do it, but you seem to have a particular propensity for it.
It might have not been completely clear in my first post and reading my third post in a certain way that I was more talking about ASC1951, but I stand by what I said. I don't think either of us should have posted in this thread, we were free to do so, but it looks silly (see golden rule above). Apart from that it's the cafe for smeg's sake. It's not commuting or CA&D.
