Hi, ive been offered 10 speed rival with the carbon levers and froce front mech or the new shimano 5800 105 through insurance they are both exactly the same price and brand new, which one would you go with and why?

I like the sram for the light weight and the look of the levels

I like the 105 cause its the latest with the 4 arms crank brakes and front mech

Its eventually going on an s works tarmac
Help!

Ive rode shimano on everything else ive had but i prefered the sora shape shofters as they are thinner and taller ut the sram are just a joy to hold, i think whats really making me think about it is the 105 being the very latest and the newest of shimano's tech. But i think the sram will make for a lighter bike and the rival is worth abit more

I am a SRAM fan, but haven't they just announced 11 speed Rival? If you were going to go 10 speed Rival you wouldn't be running the latest kit for long until it was superseded.

I am guessing there is no option of 11 speed Rival. I'd be tempted to go 5800 105, as it is likely to be current for a few years and will possibly give you more options (hydraulics) later on. Not suggesting you actually need 11 gears over 10, but I would like to have the latest kit for longer if possible.

I currently have Red on one bike and 5700 105 on the other. Since my LBS set up the 105 properly when I switched frames it has been very good. It is running Avid BB7's though, so if I wanted to go hydraulic on this bike (commuter / wet weather), it means I have got to change most / all of the gruppo as I haven't see a 10 speed manual hydraulic STI, only 11 speed. If I have got to change the entire gruppo to go hydraulic, I'll probably go SRAm unless there is an exceptional reason not to. I do love my Red.

Yeah ive no choice of 11 speed rival its either 10 speed rival or the latest 105, i cant help but think the bike would look sexier with the 105 too with the black crank, the frame is this one

Does that frame suit a higher end gruppo, Ultegra / Dura Ace or Force / Red?

Could you get the 5800 gruppo offered (if you'll get a better resale value than Rival) then flog it and get one more befitting the frame?

I think that SRAM Red is the way forward:whistle:

The new 105 def.

The Rival is 2006 stuff.

New 105 has better derailleurs than the Rival.
Has improved hood shape.
Swappable chainrings for all sorts of sizes.
Loads of cassettes.
11 speed allows a lot of flexibility in gear choice.
Can run a standard double with a big cog if you want and still have a tight cassette.
Replacements easy to find.
Looks really nice.
Re-sale value of the Sram will plummet when the new version of it comes out.
Re-sale value of the new 105 will be high for a few years.

Im still totally 50/50 i keep deciding on one then seeing the other and thinking... Nah the sram has silver chainrings so looks abit iffy the onemhting i dont like about the sram is the look of the chainset ill also add it will never be sold on, i run my bikes until they are totally useless

I really would have a word with your insurance company regarding their valuation of your Venge. They always go in low and then wriggle like buggery until you agree on a valuation.

Ive tried as much as i can it was first discussed pver two weeks ago and they were saying nothing at all and im at the point now i just need to squeeze a proper bike out of it, i made a hack to get me around but it was dropping to bits due to the cheap shimano parts used and it finally gave in witha. Snapped chain and damaged bb and sprockets lastnight, are all sram rival 10 speeds 2006 or have they been modified over the years?
